KinderHaus offers daily afterschool enrichments designed to support language development, confidence, and joyful exploration. Through open-ended activities, storytelling, and guided social interaction, children strengthen their language skills, nurture their curiosity, and grow in independence and self-expression–all in a warm, play-based setting.
When: Mondays through Fridays, from 3:30 pm until 6:00 pm 
Ages: 1 – 8 years
KinderHaus invites children into a nurturing, language-rich environment filled with creativity, movement, nature, storytelling, and hands-on discovery. Rooted in our German immersion model, each day is designed to spark imagination, build confidence, and support developmental growth across languages and cultures.
Monday: Little Makers
Children explore a wide range of creative materials through open-ended building, making, and experimenting. From recycled materials and natural objects to felting and simple construction, tape, sticks, cardboard, and other loose parts, each week offers a new invitation to create. Sometimes the focus is artistic; sometimes there is a small challenge to solve: Can we build something that stands? Moves? Holds weight? Children are encouraged to follow their own ideas, test different approaches, make changes, and try again. There is no single right result; the focus is on creativity, curiosity, and the process of making.
Tuesday: Nature Explorers
Our explorers press their palms into garden soil, arranging stones and branches into Land Art that only lasts until the wind comes, crouching over a sensory experiment to see what happens when you mix this with that. As the days lengthen into spring, our Klassenzimmer in Prospect Park becomes a meadow, a muddy path, a patch of sky. Children come home quieter, fuller, mit Dreck unter den Fingernägeln and questions they’re still turning over.
Wednesday: Move & Dance
Children tumble through obstacle courses, learn to hold a yoga pose just a little longer than they thought they could, and lose themselves in the freedom of open movement and dance. Cooperative games ask them to communicate, trust, and try again. Übung macht den Meister, and here, the practice is joyful. What begins as Spiel quietly becomes confidence earned through motion, coordination built through joy. By the end of the year, they carry themselves a little differently.
Thursday: Early Literacy Club
Geschichten have always been where children first discover who they are and what the world might be. On Thursdays, we tell them together. Through Kamishibai storytelling cards, picture books read aloud, puppet characters with their own stubborn opinions, and improvisational dramatic play, children step inside language and find that it fits. Their voices grow stronger. Their imaginations grow bolder. Wer erzählt, der lebt and the stories they create themselves are often the best ones of all.
Friday: Art Atelier
Rooted in the tradition of Ausdrucksmalen, expressive, unself-conscious painting, our Open Art Atelier is a space without right answers. Farben, textures, shapes: the materials are waiting, and the only requirement is that your child brings their own Neugier. There is no finished product to produce, no example to replicate. Der Weg ist das Ziel, only the Prozess itself, and the particular, irreplaceable thing that emerges when a child is given time, space, and the freedom to begin.
